Our First Race

We are registered!!! Eric and I are officially registered for the Run Like Hell Portland! 10K on October 24th. This will be the first race we have ever raced together. I am guessing he will have a better time than me, but maybe I will surprise myself! He has been running after work the past few weeks. The race course looks fairly flat, but Downtown Portland tends to have a few hills that can surprise you. I can't wait!!!

Marathon Here I Come!

My goal is now set! May 2nd....the Eugene Marathon. I am going to register soon. 26.2 miles of just me and the road. At least I will be able to train in a decent amount of time and in the weather that I will be running in.

The stitches come out on Friday, I may attempt a run earlier we'll see. It will just depend on if they pull or not. I am anxious to get back out running. We are planning on joining the Firstenburg Center. They have a pool and fitness center. So I can take some fitness classes as well running on the treadmill during the winter! I am trying to convince Eric to join me in the Run Like Hell 10K on Oct. 24th in Portland. It sounds like a great race, and you can dress up! Maybe I can Eric to wear a costume ;) Thanksgiving the Oregon Zoo has the Turkey Trot which is a 4 mile run, and I want to that also. Hopefully this fall will be full of some fun runs!

Race For The Cure

A little late in posting this, but better late than never! On Sunday Clair, my mom, Tanya and I walked the 5k Race for the Cure along with about 30 thousand other men, women and children in search for a cure for breast cancer. We walked in memory of Eric's grandma Christine, a family friend's sister Carol, and a former nursing professor Lois. We also walked celebrating my friend Lynette's grandma and my friend Meg's grandma! It was such an amazing experience. As we crossed the finish line the announcer said that this was the 3rd largest race IN THE WORLD!!!! Way to go Portland! I was a little disappointed because I was really looking forward to the 5k run. Due to the stitches in my leg, I couldn't though.

At the health expo, the Portland Runners Club was there. They were promoting the Turkey Trot. It is a run at the zoo on Thanksgiving. I think I am going to sign up! Plus there is a Toddler Trot, a half mile run for kiddos, perfect for Clair! Eugene has a marathon scheduled in May. I am looking towards that. I can't wait for this leg to heal up so I can head out and run again!

My New Addiction

First off....I have never been a runner. In fact, I have hated it with a passion. That somehow changed. I am now addicted! Could it be the fact that for the time I am running, it is only me? Possibly. For 45 minutes to an hour and a half, the only person I am focusing on is myself. I throw my iPod on and start moving. Or is it the fact that the exercise is helping lose weight? Nope...not than one, it hasn't budged the scale a bit :) What about the fact that when I am done I feel like I have accomplished something? Yeah, that is a big one.

Well this is my journey! Last year my goal was to run a marathon before I turned 31. Well due to a back injury in March, that goal was put on hold. I could still do it, but it would require a lot of dedication and a lot of strain on myself. I have decided that I could do my best to get there, but if I don't, I know I will be close!

Last week I ran my 1st ever 10K, or 6.2 miles. It was the greatest feeling I have had in awhile! It was amazing. The week leading up to it I ran 6.2 on a treadmill twice, and so I was confident I would at least finish. And I did. I finished in 73 mins. This was about 4 mins faster than I had run on the treadmill. The race was through downtown Portland, and it was a beautiful day.

This weekend is the Komen Race for the Cure 5K. My plan was to run the chip-timed 5K, and then join Clair, my mom and friend Tanya for the 5K walk. Due to a mole being removed on my left leg that is actually pretty deep, and has 3 stitches in it, I will not be running and only doing the walk. I am looking forward to a morning of fun for a great cause!!!

I am looking to run in the Run Like Hell run in October. I will either do another 10K or the half-marathon. Not sure yet which one I am going to do yet.
